Art in the City

As I prepare to start some new chapters I’ve been taking inventory of old work. I really want to share more intentionally how the different facets of my creativity inform each other, how they fit together and also create contrast and tension. Below are some links to a poem I wrote as an interlude for a collab with @velcromc back in the day and some flicks of really dope graffiti I took a few months ago. I’m a 90’s hip hop kid at heart and when I went to PR in 2009 I was introduced to the local hip hop scene there. Emcees like @velcromc @ikolsantiago_ and @sietenueve blew me away. It was the first time I’d really been exposed to next level lyricism in my first language. It was my first time seeing graffiti and breaking on the island. I felt hella inspired by the beauty of diaspora and all of its “remesas culturales“ This piece is the first time I really tried to write something in Spanish, which I’m doing more often now. And graffiti has always been an art form that moves and inspires me for the way it intervenes and challenges ideas of art and public space. #hiphop #chicagograffiti #hiphopboricua #poesiahablada #spokenwordpoetry
